[ACW] With 3rd Corps at Gettysburg

Had a great time, after nearly all of the painting was done, last weekend when we refought Gettysburg at my local.
Rules were Fire and Fury
My mate Nick came down with the bulk of the 3rd Corps, generously he gave me half to run. I had the first Division of 3rd Corps, he had the second
The gang from Southern Strategists did most of the heavy lifting. With Rodger doing a ton of awesome buildings as well as his army. Another South Island blogger mate was across from me as well Craig C! Bloody Rebels!

Ward's Brigade at the extreme southern flank of the Union Army, the Devils Den.

Little Roundtop lies behind completely unoccupied

de Trobland's Brigade in front of the wheat field

Graham's Brigade in the Oeach Orchard

3rd Corps 2nd Division in the Peach Orchard

McLaws first charge into deTrobland

After the second charge!

By the end of day one Sickles had nearly split the Confederate forces

Some of 2nd Division was thrown back to Troxles Farm

North of our exciting southern battlegrounds was a long blue line

Kent waiting for Russells attack

Dave's awesome wagon

Ward had moved off of the Den to avoid three batteries of guns

But charged back in first thing on Sunday smashing Robertson

Little Round Top before it was decided either way

After McLaws threw us out we went in three more times, unsucessfully

For those who are counting we lost by 8 points overall. The Devils Den was worth 10 to the Union...

Lots of news, no time to post!

Hi guys, most of you know I've been flat out with the arrival of a brand new co-conspirator.
My son Markian appeared a couple days early, nearly two weeks ago! We're hella stoked, to fall into the California vernacular which is in fact my native tongue. He is healthy and happy and we are all doing great.

Onto the PN news! Before and after this earth shaking event we've snuck in a couple games of the old school D&D 3.25, meaning whatever 3.5 stuff Jamie likes he keeps.;-) I'm good with that as I believe he has relatively sound judgement in these matters. I'm running my usual sneaky fighter type, in this case a Half Orc Barbarian - Rogue. Before anyone starts yelling, 'Min maxer!', I would like to add that he has no spiked chain... only because I couldn't afford one or the required feat.8P For those who point out that my Earthdawn character was also an Orc, I will point out that Orc is a racist Dwarvish slur, and shut up already!
Anyway fun times.
Half Magdan with Falchion
On the WIP front I have a few things going on as you know.
Priority One. ACW is ticking over nicely thank you very much.

Painting up the bulk of the sharpshooters

Union Zouaves, based on 5th New York of course

Union regulars

Some regulars led to the front by a sharpshooter

As well as my modern guys head swap and some mods.

Tamiya crew minis with Perry Zouave heads!

Black wash

Nearly done!

To base or not to base?

I'm just gonna leave this here for Simon who never posts here.

[ACW] Ward's Brigade, halfway there.

Well I'm halfway there anyway. Based and mostly done, I may throw some stripes on the Sergeants as well as needing flags and individual Regimental markings.

I have seven stands to go but I'm making a few extra. I've also got a cannon in the works. The Perry plastics are great as are their metals of course. However I may have to keep the sharpshooters on separate bases as the Redoubt minis seem a bit big.

Here are some WIP shots.

Here are the 'red legs' of the gun crew.

Command stand for my Sharpshooters

Sharpshooter stand with tube optics mounted on their competition rifles

Zouaves and more regular Union infantry.

All of this is for the Gettysburg Refight scheduled for July here in CHCH.
I'll be running Ward's Brigade as part of Sickle's (Nick Garden's) 3rd Corps.

[ACW] Ward's Brigade WIP

Here are some work in progress pics to prove I haven't been slacking off completely.
I stuffed by back and sitting up wasn't working for me! Been resting, saw a physio, getting better.

My gun crew

Different color blanket rolls

Moustaches, check.

Grey undercoat vs blue. Blue?

Firing manual of arms, mostly there.;-)

There is actually progress between these shots as well as since.;-)
I need another 20 - 25 minis not including, BG Ward, some casualty/disrupted markers etc.
I may just go for another box of Perry plastics but if anyone has a line on some extras or suitable smaller blisters give me a heads up

[ACW] Berdan's Sharpshooters WIP

Finally some ACW headway.
I've had the awesome Redoubt Enterprises Berdan's Sharpshooters mini's for some time now. I've been looking at prints and color plates, as well as researching through their re-enactors and other sources.
Finally my first two test figures are knocked together.

These are modelled with the distinctive pack and frock coat which was probably long gone by Gettysburg. I'll do a few with other variations as well. I haven't added the red diamond or the brass buckles etc as this is primarily a color test.
I plan on doing a few bases of pairs of sharpshooters, as well as a couple of three figures. I also plan on having a few mixed on the other stands.

[ACW] Berdan's Sharpshooters

So as part of the Gettysburg Refight scheduled for next year I have volunteered to help out!
I got interested in Berdan's Sharpshooters and when Pooch pointed out Redoubt Enterprises' Sharpshooters minis it was all over.
Now that they've arrived they are even better than expected, marvelous sculpts.

They will be about 4 stands of Wards Brigade. On the 5cm square bases that I think we're standardizing I will probably use 3 each, unless I mix them with my Perry plastics.

Yes they even have Prussian packs
The whole of Ward's Brigade will be 11 stands representing the 124th New York as well as the 86th New York, the 3rd and 4th Maine as well as the 20th Indiana and 99th Pennsylvania.
I'm gathering various details to try and represent these regiments and it should be fun.
I haven't ordered a General yet to represent Ward or Colonel Berdan, but I do have a cannon!
Thinking about some different heads as well, we'll see.
